Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former number one, has had a torrid period, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in specific - caused him exiting of the top ten and finally separating with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial trophy after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court after that period of the previous year.

The win also indicates he has won twenty-one championships at 21 distinct events.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters together, so to get a trophy is really nice," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six finals, including in Halle previously this season.

His defensive approach and frequent reactions on the playing surface had prompted some to wonder if his ability to play at the top level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and compete aggressively, backed up by an better serving game.

He recovered from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged break points in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his initial ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a final set.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game break points in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned victory with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
